Case Study
Rare Wine Deals was designed to make it as easy as possible for one to find the wine he or she was looking for. The site features thousands of wines that are categorized by vintage, producer, category, and size. My job was to make all of this information easily availabe to the user as he or she browses the extensive inventory.
Wine Categories
Selecting a wine categories (red, white, port, etc.) is one of the easiest ways for a user to find the wine he or she is looking for. Because of this, all available wine categories are placed in the header at all times. Placing the wine categories at the top of the page makes it so the user does not have to waste time searching the entire page for the wine category listings.
Wine Search
The search feature on RareWineDeals.com is very powerful. As a user types in the search box, dynamic search suggestions appear based on what the user has already typed. As the user types an AJAX request is sent and the database is searched for wines matching the text in the text box. If the user decides not to use the search suggestions, he or she can do a standard search. It is even possible to narrow down the search based on wine category.
